A new low cost Spice smartphone has been spotted listed on online shopping website, Saholic. Dubbed as Spice Stellar 518, the phone comes with Android 4.4 KitKat Operating System and a price tag of Rs. 7,799. It has a 5-inch FWVGA screen, powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Google today launched Android One in India. The smartphones launched are called Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO, and the Karbonn Sparkle V. They will be available on Amazon India, Flipkart and Snapdeal respectively, and in terms of pricing, the Dream UNO is priced at Rs 6,299, Sparkle V at Rs 6,399, and the Canvas A1 is priced at Rs 6,499.

Android One phones run on the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat. They will be some of the first phones to get the new Android L release — an update that will offer Google’s new material design, improved battery life, enhanced security features, and smarter notifications.

Through Google Play, Android One phones have access to over one million apps that allow people to message friends, make video calls, socialize, check news and weather, and play games. Google apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Translate will come pre-loaded on the phones.

Google Android One release date is on 15 September, 2014. The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 is the first Android One smartphone and it is already on sale on Flipkart at a price of Rs 6,999.

Android One is a well thought out initiative by Google to partner with local phone manufacturers and make Android smartphones available to people at affordable prices while giving them power packed features. It is basically a $100 price smartphone movement but there have been reports of slightly more expensive devices coming to India with better features and more satisfaction for the user with a pure Android experience.

Spice Mobiles has launched a Firefox OS-powered smartphone, Fire One Mi-FX 1. The phone is priced at Rs 2299 and will be sold exclusively through Snapdeal from August 29.

Spice’s Fire One supports multiple Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali. Firefox OS’s app store Marketplace will be pre-installed on the handset.

Spice has launched two new Android 4.4 KitKat-based smartphones in India, the Stellar 449 3G and Stellar Mi-508 – priced at Rs. 6,299 and Rs. 6,249. Spice Stellar series are available from online retailer HomeShop18. There is no word on the availability of the new budget smartphones from Spice.

Spice on Wednesday said it will bring the much-awaited Rs 1,500-Firefox and Rs 6,000-Android One smartphones to India before Diwali.

Mozilla had tied up with Indian firms — Intex and Spice, to bring smartphones priced at $25 to India. Under the Android One initiative, Google has partnered Spice, Micromax and Karbonn from India to deliver a smartphone under $100. Both the handsets are expected to fuel further competition in the world’s fastest growing smartphone market.

Spice Retail CEO Devices T M Ramakrishnan said -

“We will have the handsets in before Diwali. These phones are designed for driving connectivity at affordable prices. We were chosen for our innovation, we are among the chosen few to work with these global giants to bring these devices to India.
