The Chinese Smartphone player Xiaomi’s unannounced RedMi Note 2 has surfaced online yet again. An alleged photo showing off the upper part of the back panel, focusing mainly on the camera module of the RedMi Note 2 has been posted by GSMDome. The photo shows an 8-megapixel camera module.

The image shows the back of the handset and looks like a rubberised finish on what could be a complete plastic construction. Xiaomi is known for building quality handsets so we do think that they have the ability to pull off a plastic build pretty well. What is also visible is the LED flash unit along with the vertically placed ‘8.0 MP’ camera branding, alongside the camera lens.

The placement of logo and even the look of the camera are pretty different from what has been on the current generation Xiaomi Smartphones.

This device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615, a 64-bit octa-core processor. 2GB of RAM will allegedly also be a part of this package as well as a 13-megapixel camera. 5.5-inch 1080p display will allegedly be its screen size and the device will ship with a 3500mAh battery. This will also be a dual-SIM capable device and will sport 4G LTE connectivity. Its price is sub-1499 Yuan ($245) according to the source.

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has a new product up its sleeves to monitor your blood pressure. Branded as iHealth, the new dock attaches to a cuff that can measure your blood pressure and heart rate.

The iHealth dock sounds similar to other such devices, such as the Withings Smart Blood Pressure Monitor, which attaches a cuff to your smartphone and uses an app to record and monitor your blood pressure.

Xiaomi spokesperson said -

“The blood pressure monitor can be used on other Android devices, but it is best suited for Xiaomi smartphones.”

Xiaomi had marked its first move to health-related gadgets back in July when the company launched its Mi Band alongside the company’s flagship smartphone, Mi 4.

Xiaomi conducted the first flash sale for its affordable Redmi 1S (smartphone) priced at Rs 5,999 today (on Tuesday). And just like the previous Mi3 flash sales, the Redmi 1S was out of stock within a few seconds.

The company is selling their phones exclusively on Indian retailer Flipkart, and has struggled to keep up with the high demand. After Sale at 2pm, 40,000 units of the Redmi 1S sell-out in 4.2 seconds.

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s head honcho announced earlier today that the Redmi 1S will come with two free screen-guards and micro-SIM adapters, sweetening the deal even more.

Flipkart on the other hand, revealed that they had over 250,000 pre-registrations, which means about one-in-six buyers actually managed to get the Redmi 1S today. The registration for the next sale will begin at 6 p.m. today and the sale will go live next Tuesday (September 9, 2014).

Xiaomi plans to launch its flagship Mi 4 phone by the year-end in India and also plans to set up its Mi Home experience zone in Bangalore within four to six months. Redmi 1S, was launched on Tuesday, with registrations continuing till September 2. Redmi 1S will retail in India at Rs 5,999. The company has entered into exclusive partnership with e-commerce site Flipkart to sell all its products.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s India head of operations said -

“The next few things that we will be launching are Mi 4, our flagship product; Mi pad, which is a tablet and Mi Band, a health band. Mi 4 will come to India towards the end of the year, post-Diwali in all likelihood.”

Xiaomi ensures the software is great and customized for Indian customers and the pricing is right. If the inputs are right, output will follow, which is the number of phones that we are selling.

The Redmi will be up for grabs on September 2, following the ‘Xiaomi Tuesdays’ trend. The company, known to reveal information via its social channels, now reveals that 40,000 units of the device will go on sale on September 2. It is almost four times the number of Mi 3 units put up for sale in the first batch.

Xiaomi had announced that the Redmi 1s will be sold at Rs 6,999 for the Indian market. However, the price has been dropped to 5,999 to further intensify the competition in the budget mobile segment in India.

Hugo Barra said -

“Our capacity for the RedMi is very high. We can respond to RedMi demand a lot faster.”

It has a 4.7-inch 720p IPS screen, a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, dual-SIM functionality and a 2,000mAh battery. On the back, it also has a 8-megapixel camera and on the front there is a 1.6-megapixel front camera. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running under a layer of MiUI 5. On the Redmi 1S, there is also a ‘light’ mode, which provides a grid of tiles offering a simplified feature phone like experience.

Xiaomi has also stated that Redmi 1S accessories will go on sale alongside the smartphone and it has also revealed the pricing of these accessories.

After the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S on Tuesday, it’s being reported that the company has decided to discontinue sales, at least temporarily. Xiaomi might not have enough stocks available to increase the supply in India in the near future, and since the Redmi Note and the Mi 4 flagship are expected to launch here shortly too it seems unlikely that the Mi 3 will be brought back on sale in India anytime soon.

Head of Xiaomi’s operations in India, said -

“Over next few weeks, we will focus on Redmi 1S, and Mi 3 won’t be available. We will take the final call after few weeks, once we have more visibility / data points. The next few things that we will be launching are Mi 4, our flagship product; Mi pad, which is a tablet and Mi Band, a health band. Mi 4 will come to India towards the end of the year, post-Diwali in all likelihood.”

Every time the Mi 3 was put up for sale, it got solf out in a matter of seconds and this was causing lot of frustration and anger in prospective customers. To avoid a situation where Xiaomi has sufficient stocks of neither the Mi 3 or Redmi 1S, Xiaomi is focussing on the Redmi series which is reportedly easier to produce compared to the Mi 3.

Xiaomi today announced another smartphone in the Indian market, the Redmi 1S. The 4.7-inch smartphone, with a 1.6 GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and an 8 megapixel rear camera will cost only Rs 5999 and will also follow the Mi 3 flash sale model. Registration for the Redmi 1S smartphone begin on Flipkart and sales will open on 2 September.

Hugo Barra during the launch event said -

“We’re pretty stubborn in that sense that we are an e-commerce company. What we’re trying to do here, we plan to build our own website, have our own e-commerce store. We want to have a dedicated Mi store for that, because we think that’s the best way for users to experience our products. We will double down and triple down on e-commerce before we even open our minds to think about offline stuff.”

The company has also announced accessories for the Redmi 1S, with screen protectors (matte and clear) priced at Rs. 179, a flip cover at Rs. 559, back cover in colors at Rs. 459, and a silica gel cover at Rs. 359.

The long awaited budget segment offering from Xiaomi seems to be ready for launch. Redmi 1S smartphone being posted on Xiaomi’s Facebook page. It’s not a clear picture at all, its entirely fuzzy , but it fits with previously known details stating that the Redmi 1S would be released around August-September.

Along with the Xiaomi Mi3, this is the second Xiaomi smartphone in the country and the company has said that it will bring its entire range to India.

Popular Chinese feature-rich smartphone Xiaomi Mi3 is all set to go for its fourth flash sale in India on 12 August.

The fourth sale of the Xiaomi Mi 3 will kick off on Flipkart at 2PM toady and Xiaomi has already revealed that 20,000 units of the smartphone will go on sale, and more than 100,000 people have already registered for it. Xiaomi has also clarified that interested consumers who registered for the third Mi 3 flash sale will have to register again for the next sale.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 is priced at Rs 13,999 and boasts features normally associated with smartphones priced above Rs 30,000.

Xiaomi has introduced the 4G-LTE variant of its Redmi Note phablet in China at a price tag of CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 9,900).
