Apple slashing prices for the older-generation iPhones after the launch of the new ones, the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S are seeing a further price drop in India. iPhone 5s 16GB variant is now priced at Rs. 44,500 while the maximum retail price of the 32GB variant is now Rs. 49,500.

It is not clear at the moment if Apple plans on introducing a buyback scheme for the iPhone 5S. But judging by the past, Apple could introduce a minimum of Rs 8,000 buyback offer on both the variants, which effectively brings the prices of both the smartphones down to Rs 36,500 and Rs 41,500 respectively. In comparison, the iPhone 5S is already retailing for Rs 38,000 on a few Indian e-commerce sites, but that isn’t the official price.

Flipkart has listed the Gold variant of the iPhone 5S 16GB for Rs 36,890.

Apple has launched the iPhone 5C 8GB in India for Rs 37,500.

The 8GB variant of the iPhone 5c was officially unveiled back in March, and was initially available in UK, France, Germany, Australia, and China. Recently, the company launched it in additional countries, including Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and Norway.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said -

“iPhone sales grew by strong double-digits year-over-year, and in India and Vietnam sales more than doubled.”

Apple will be bringing the 8GB version of the iPhone 5c to India in the coming weeks. During Apple’s Q2 2014 conference call, CEO Tim Cook said that Indian iPhone sales had more than doubled. India is an emerging market where many of the “next billion” smartphone customers are expected to come from, and getting a lower cost version of Apple’s pop-art-inspired mid-tier iPhone makes a lot of sense. Especially for customers who don’t need to cary around a lot of media with them but do want access to messaging apps and the mobile web.

It must be noted that Indian telecom operators Airtel and Reliance, which have specific schemes for the iPhone 5c in the country, have not yet listed the new model in their inventory. Apple India’s website also only shows the 16 and 32 GB option for the phone. Apple’s main US website has also not listed the new variant.

iPhone 5C 16GB is already available much below its launch price of Rs 41,900. It is most likely that apple would try to launch it at close to Rs 30,000 in India along with buyback offers.
