Reliance Digital Thursday launched its new dual SIM 3G smartphone, called Reconnect Quad Core 4.7″ and priced it, at Rs 12,999. The smartphones is dubbed as RPSPE4701 and is available for purchase from the Reliance Digital website.

Reconnect RPSPE4701 is powered by a quad-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and coupled with a 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. The smartphone still runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean OS. Reconnect RPSPE4701 supports dual SIM in which both the SIM comes with 3G support. The smartphone sports a 4.7-inch LED IPS display with a resolution of 720X1280 pixels. t sports a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash, while also housing a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera also features a BSI sensor.

There are plenty of apps out there that let you make free calls from your mobile device but none of these work well, or not at all, on 2G networks.

Nanu claims to be able to let you call any other Nanu user for free even on 2G networks. You can also call devices which don’t have the Nanu app installed, but those calls are restricted to 15 minutes.

Nanu app supports calls to landline numbers in 41different countries including India and to mobile phones in 9 other countries. The company plans to expand to other countries and platforms too. The website also says that apps for iOS and Windows will be available on play stores later this year and that Nanu app also plans to add a messaging feature.

Nanu claimed on its website -

“Nanu doesn’t need a fast network, so unlike Skype or Viber, it works on 2G and congested networks. In other words, it works anywhere your phone does. Plus Nanu sounds crisper and clearer. As more and more people use Nanu, we will be able to offer more and more free Nanu-to-non-Nanu calls.”

To call, a user has to download and use the Nanu app on their smartphones. As he calls, he will hear a voice advertisement – instead of a ringtone – before the other party is connected.

The app is only available for Android devices, but it should arrive on other platforms soon. Nanu also promised to add text messaging functionality in the future as well.

The Android app is out now on the Google Play store, while an Apple version is expected later this year.

Xolo has announced the A700s, the latest smartphone in the A series and the successor of Xolo A700 for Rs. 7299.

The Xolo A700s comes with a 4.5-inch display with qHD 540 x 960 pixels resolution , not to be confused with QHD (2K resolution). The phone is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 CPU, MediaTek MT6572 Chipset, and Mali-400 graphics processor, alongside 1GB of RAM.

Disney India has launched a new gaming app on the Android and Windows mobile platform to promote the Salman Khan-starrer film, ‘Kick’.

‘Kick’ is a Bollywood action feature film to be released on July 25^th, directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It features Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.

Salman said on launch -

“At our house, Arhaan (son of Arbaaz Khan), and Nirvaan and Yohan (both sons of Sohail Khan) are good in it. I am interested in sports and not games. We wanted to create an interactive experience of our movie for fans. The mobile game developed by Disney India is exciting and easy to play, it is engaging. I hope my fans will enjoy playing the game.”

In the game, the player takes on the role of ‘Devil’ (Salman’s name in the movie) and embarks upon a benevolent yet exciting journey where he robs the rich and corrupt and deposits that money in the bank for philanthropic causes.

This game (‘Kick’) is developed for both feature phones and smartphones (Android, Windows) to reach out to a wide audience of mobile users in the country.

Stephen Elop, Vice President of Microsoft Devices said -

“It is particularly important to recognize that the role of phones within Microsoft is different than it was within Nokia. It clearly means that the company will shift its focus from all Android-based Nokia projects.”

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said -

“We plan to shift select Nokia X product designs to become Lumia products running Windows.”

Microsoft has decided to start clearing house in a big way. Around 12,500 jobs from the upcoming round of layoffs will come directly from the Nokia division, a move that comes after Nadella hinted at the Code conference in May that he wasn’t in favor of the Nokia acquisition in the first place.

Google has just started rolling out its latest bug-fix update for Nexus 5 users in India, Australia and New Zealand with OTA firmware build number Android 4.4.4 KTU84Q. Google has officially named the update as “Android 4.4.4 KitKat MR2.2 / 4.4.4_r2”.

The firmware is currently restricted to select regions of the world and focuses on fixing issues with carrier networks or radio networks in those regions. Nexus 5 users who are residing in India, Australia or New Zealand can download the factory image for the new 4.4.4 Release 2 firmware with build number Android 4.4.4 KTU84Q.

Android 4.4.4_r2 release supports is only heading in three markets -

• New Zealanders on 2Degrees
• Aussies on Telsta
• India

To manually check for the Android 4.4.4_r2 KitKat update on your Nexus 5, head over to the ‘Software update’ tab under ‘About phone’ in the Settings menu.

Apart from the new KitKat build, Google has also started rolling out an update for its Glass wearable. The new release brings in various new features including an overhaul of the interface which now flaunts a cleaner appearance. Apart from this, connectivity has been improved along with network handling.

Evleaks suggests that Microsoft is working on an Android-powered Lumia device. Months after releasing the Nokia X, the company has unveiled X2, which will bring a refreshed hardware and software platform for the range. However, the original phones in the X series will miss out on the software update.

Nokia already put Android smartphones under the X-series, so it is strange to hear that Microsoft is going to launch them under the Lumia name. Maybe Microsoft is planning to kill the X-series and put all the devices under the Lumia/Nokia by Microsoft branding.

The Indian Air Force launched its first video game for mobile devices—Guardians of the Skies. The game is currently available for download on Android devices.

IAF officials said -

“The game, which will be freely available from July 3 across Android, iOS and Windows platforms on mobile phones, is aimed at children between ages 14 and 18 and to encourage them to join the Air Force.”

Guardians of the Skies showcases the the Air Force might in the virtual world. It is a realistic air combatting game, which puts you in charge of the Air Force and you’ll have to take on the enemies in combat. The story revolves around a fictional enemy country, Zaruzia, which is planning to wage war against India. In this game players can carry out virtual attacks on enemy targets flying a Su-30MKI combat aircraft.

The mobile game will be released in two phases under which one training mission and two operational missions would be released in the first phase while players will get to carry out eight virtual operational missions under the second phase.
