Bangalore division of Indian Railways has partnered with RailTel and Telibrahma to provide “BluFi” services in the city railway station. BluFi stands for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The BluFi services will allow passengers to access online content such as videos, games, wallpapers along with Railway-related information information such as PNR status, just by switching Bluetooth on their mobile devices at the station.

Railway had also proposed Wi-Fi facility at ‘A1’ & ‘A’ category stations and in 50 rakes of important trains in Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duranto category. This is in addition to Wi-Fi facility provided in 3 rakes of Howrah-New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express as a pilot project.

Free Wi-Fi services are provided RailTel as a part of its RailWire retail broadband drive. To use Railways’ free Wi-Fi service, passengers/users need to send a request for accessing Internet via their mobile phones. Users/passengers will then receive password via SMS for further proceedings.

Telecom service provider Tata Docomo has entered into a partnership with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to offer WiFi services from the first week of July in Connaught Place area of the national capital.

Statement said -

The first 20 minutes of the service would be free of cost and after that one has the options of buying a plan online or through purchase of scratch cards, starting from Rs 20 for 40 minutes, Rs 30 for 60 minutes and Rs 50 for 100 minutes. Customers would get ‘one-time password’ to avail the service.

Avinash Gabriel, Chief Operating Officer, Wi-Fi Business, Tata Docomo said -

“With these services we are targeting business and non-business visitors who increasingly need connectivity with higher speeds across multiple devices.”

Connaught Place, now known as Rajiv Chowk, is a prominent place in the national capital where thousands of people visit every day for business and shopping purposes.

NDMC Chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said -

“Enriching facilities such as Wi-Fi connectivity across Connaught Place showcase the futuristic path NDMC has taken to bring the city at par with international standards”.

Tata Docomo already provides such facilities in other public areas such as Delhi Domestic and T3 International Airport and Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium.
